  1. Log in to Klaviyo. Once you're in, navigate to the “Flows” section from the main dashboard. Click on “Create Flow” to start a new flow.

  1. In the flow creation window, you can see a few template options. To build your own flow, start by clicking 'Build you own' in the top-right corner. We’ll create a checkout abandon flow so we’ll name it that.

  1. Since this is a checkout abandon flow, the trigger will be based on when a customer starts but does not complete the checkout process. In the flow builder, click on the “Trigger” step. Select “Checkout Started” as your trigger. This ensures the flow activates when someone begins checkout but doesn’t finalise the purchase.

  1. With the trigger in place, it’s time set the time delay. This is the wait period between the customer completing their browser action and the flow being sent. You want this to be while the customer is still engaged with the product so a short time period is recommended. Lets set this one to 30 minutes

  1. Next we’re going to add the emails. We will create three emails in this flow. Click on the “+” icon to add an email step. We can also include time delays between these emails. I will have a 1 day delay between email 1 and 2, then have a 2 day delay between emails 2 and 3.

  1. To ensure your flow runs smoothly, set up conditions to manage how often a browser receives these emails. You might want to add conditions to prevent sending these emails to people who have already completed their purchase, so filter out ‘purchase complete’ and people who have recently received an email from this flow using this filter.

  1. Before making your flow live, lets give it a test. Use Klaviyo’s preview and testing features to ensure everything looks good and functions correctly. Check the email timings, triggers, and overall flow to make sure it’s working as expected.

  1. Once you’re happy with your setup, it’s time to activate the flow. Ensure your flow's activation status is set to 'Live' and click on “Update Statuses” to set your flow live. Your checkout abandonment flow is now running and will automatically send out your emails to customers who abandon their carts.
