US merchants can now send SMS from a short code
Send your US SMS from a short code instead of a toll free number, for faster sending and a more established look.
Short code applications are manual for now, and the US carriers review each one. Approval can take 6 to 12 weeks. Your toll free number keeps sending the whole time, and the short code takes over once it is live. Speed is the main change. At 3 messages per second, a text to 10,000 shoppers takes almost an hour to go out. At 100 per second, it is done in under two minutes. A short code also looks more established to your shoppers than a toll free number.
